| ACTIVITIES FOR
THE PUPILS |
9-12 years
Johnnys life during
the occupation
(1 hour / 1 to 2 classes)
Johnny is ten years old. He tells the schoolchildren
how he lived through the four years of the occupation
with his family in Normandy, describing the games he
plays, his concerns, the contacts he has with German
soldiers and how he spends his time at school. All this
is brought to life even more vividly through contemporary
objects, such as his gas mask, coffee grinder and beret,
that all the children can handle.
13-17 years
Daily life in France
during the German occupation
(1 hour / 1 class)
Given the opportunity of handling some of the objects
in our archives: shoes with wooden soles, a gas mask,
a rubber bicycle tyre, a ration card... students discover
French daily life, characterized by restriction, civil
defense, repression, emigration to the south of France...
Resisting the Nazis
(1 hour / 1 class)
Through handling a submachine gun, a radio, grenades,
a Resistance newspaper, fake identification, a messenger
pigeon cage... students immediately understand how dangerous
the daily life of a member of the Resistance could be.
